So long since I have written an article. But I was talking to a friend of mine about something that's been troubling me a lot these days, within our talk, he asked me, do you know what the word Fitna in the Quran means?

It is strange the information he told me about this word. This word was used in ancient Arabic with gold. When gold was discovered, it would be heated till melting point, anything other than the gold would fall into the fire and what only remains is pure gold. This gold is called "maftoon". So a person would ask another, is this gold "maftoon", if so, it would be so much more valuable.

In the Quran, the first verses of Surat Al Ankaboot says

الم، أحسب الناس أن يتركوا أن يقولوا امنا وهم لا يفتنون، ولقد فتنا الذين من قبلهم فليعلمن الله الذين صدقوا وليعلمن الكاذبين

Translated

Alif Lam Meem, do people think they will be left to say we believe without being tried (yoftanoon)? And we have tried (fatanna) the people before them, God will know the truthful and he will know the liars.

Like gold, we will all be put into trials, we will be heated to melting point. Only the pure gold will remain, and anything else will fall into the fire. God will not admit into his grace anything but pure gold.

Finally, I want to say that I want and you want but what happens is what God wants. We must accept that he knows the future, and he alone knows the future, he chooses for us what is better, although we may think it's what is worse. In the Quran talking about the efk God says "Do not think it is bad for you, it is actually good for you".

May we all be pure gold, of the truthful, not the liars. Let us pray for what we want, what we desire, but have faith that He will choose for us what is best. What we may think is bad for us may actually be good in the end.
